Just like The Denim series, another sub-theme I work with is skin: faces. My "Faces" include close-ups from makeup tutorials and skincare routines, as well as images of pop culture icons (i.e. actresses, singers) who have permeated a generation's visual landscape.
What interests me in these cropped faces is their ubiquitous presence—whether movie star and/or influencer—who instill an idea or abstraction of looks through a screen, for which, on occasion, I like to add a play button, a pointer arrow or similar digital tools.
”The question to be asked of a face is not 'what does a face represent?' but rather, 'what can a face do?'". The painted face, therefore, is not merely a portrait of an internal feeling, but an external emanation of possibility—a virtual structure that shapes new encounters, new desires, and new ways of being in the world.
