Lives and works in Santiago de Chile
From a distance, my work responds to the commercial images from cosmetics, wellness and fashion industries. But at the core of my practice lies an interest for the image, consumption, beauty and femininity.
Through fragmented framing, I seek to create an open story that reflects the paradoxes in the imaginary of female consumption, both formally and symbolically, rescuing its functions as a “cultural artifact” of contemporaneity.
Through the gaze of a millennial female consumer, I am interested in portraying the kaleidoscopic (and often contradictory) essence of the ideals of beauty, femininity and youth in pop culture, accounting for the multiple views and guidelines that coexist in this context.
By combining surfaces of creamy luminosity with object extensions of pictorial investigations, I seek to give an enigmatic and poetic twist to the apparently innocuous images that hide more than they reveal to the contemporary consumer.
I conceive my work as a back and forth between contemplation and disinterest, between critique and complicity of the feminine consumer imaginary, which aims to open discussions regarding the relationship between commodities, identities and consumption, as well as to bring current gender and well-being politics to the forefront.
Finally, I seek to confront the viewer with the ambiguity of these concepts, which throughout history have revealed an abstract and surreal nature: mirages that carry the meaning and weight that we, as viewers, grant them.
